RAVEONETTES GAGARIN ATHENS LIVE 06.05.2023

The previous Saturday the RAVEONETTES gave an explosive live at Gagarin, stirring up the Athenian audience. As announced by Sune Rose Wagner, they played the entire Whip It On album and then another 40 minutes of the strongest moments from their subsequent albums. The audience greeted them enthusiastically and while the Live was going on everyone seemed to be having a surprisingly good time. The combination of garage, surf rock with fuzz guitars and shoegaze aesthetics worked, more than expected, flawlessly. Among the strongest moments were the performances of Dead Sound, Hallucinations, Endless Sleeper, Cops on Our Tail, while as expected the female element gave its change to Love in a Trashcan which opened the short encore.
I think that the Raveonettes, with their apt setlist and full of rhythm and intensity, stormy playing, managed to raise the mood of everyone who found themselves at Gagarin.

That they chose to play Whip It On in its entirety was no accident. August 23 sees the release of the Rip It Off album featuring musicians covering every song from the band’s debut album Whip It On. Performers include Black Angels, Dave Gahan, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Eagles of Death Metal, Trentemøller and many more.
